Jun-29-2026 PST Diablo4

Summary

This guide breaks down the class power rankings for Diablo 4 Season 14 based on PTR testing and post-PTR patch notes. Rogue and Barbarian emerge as the clear winners with multiple viable build options, while Sorcerer and Druid show strong potential with fire and lightning variants, respectively. Paladin and Warlock have massive upside but remain uncertain due to post-PTR buffs that haven't been tested. Necromancer and Spirit Barrage raise concerns, with Necromancer facing major survivability issues and Spirit Barrage seemingly stuck with the same poison swarm build from last season.

The Winners: Top-Tier Classes for Season 14

Rogue - The Speed Demon

Rogue is looking like one of the top classes for Season 14, potentially even the absolute best if a certain bugged build makes it to live servers. During the PTR, a Death Trap build was discovered that seemed to scale infinitely, and the patch notes don't appear to address it. If this goes live, Rogues will be doing everything instantly.

Beyond the bug, Rogues have a brilliant variety. Penetrating Shot and poison builds remain strong with minimal changes. Barrage serves as an excellent alternative. Dance of Knives is shaping up to be the ultimate leveling build, offering great speed clear with a super chill playstyle similar to Whirlwind Barbarian. Twisting Blades also made a strong return on the PTR. Overall, Rogue has a fantastic variety of valid options that are competitive with one another.

Barbarian - The Consistent Powerhouse

Barbarian was a massive winner in Season 13 and continues that trend. The Ancient Summoner minion build was the top performer on the PTR, easily achieving Pit tier 140 or higher. The berserk set nerf doesn't affect this build, so it remains largely untouched.

Whirlwind remains a phenomenal choice too, offering super chill, straightforward gameplay. Burning Charge was heavily underplayed in Season 13 but is still a strong option. The most exciting development is the bleed charm set changes, which unlock new potential for bleed builds that weren't tested on the PTR. Barbarian offers faster clear than most classes, superb survivability, and unbelievable output.

The Strong Contenders

Sorcerer - Fire is Back

Sorcerer was undeniably the king of Season 13, maintaining top performance even when other classes had broken bugs. The class revolved around shock builds using Unstable Currents, largely ignoring fire and ice. The PTR completely flipped this. Fire became the dominant element with damage-over-time builds. Fire Wall returned, alongside Hydra and Meteor. The top build was Firewall, achieving Pit tier 130 to 140.

Post-PTR, we're seeing more encouragement for non-shock builds. Fire and ice builds received improvements, with frost builds being heavily encouraged. Frost hasn't been tested yet, so it's uncertain whether it will surpass Fire. Sorcerer has strong build potential with a good variety.

Druid - Lightning Focus

Druid has been somewhat pigeonholed into lightning builds. Lightning Storm and the very popular Lightning Shred builds performed well on the PTR and remain solid post-PTR with minimal changes. This is actually a positive shift, as Druid spent all of Season 13 playing companion Druid builds almost exclusively. Now there are at least variants of lightning builds. Other druid builds like Pulverize and Landslide remain relevant options, but Lightning Shred seems to be the most popular and effective choice.

The High Potential: Uncertain but Promising

Paladin - Massive Buffs After PTR

Paladin was severely behind in Season 13, performance-wise, the lowest output class. The top options always revolved around resolve, stacking block chance and damage, which meant Juggernaut builds exclusively. On the PTR, Paladin started in a dire state with resolve nerfed. However, the post-PTR patch notes were insane for Paladin, with major DPS buffs across every build type and survivability buffs across the board. The devs focused on zealot builds, with Zeal especially looking like the best option. The uncertainty comes from the fact that these big DPS increases happened after the PTR and haven't been properly tested.

Warlock - Major Functional Improvements

Warlock received major output buffs, but the functional buffs are what I'm most excited about. The class was notoriously clunky on release. Take Umbral Chains as an example. Previously, if you cast it outside range, your character would walk closer. This held you in place. Now it should work like other classes, sending skills to max range and keeping you mobile. Lunatic Warlock is the talk of the community. There's been a clear effort to move Apocalypse out of the meta, which was necessary since it was the top option for an extreme amount of time. Warlock has so much to explore, and the post-PTR changes are substantial.

The Concerned Classes

Necromancer - Survivability Crisis

Necromancer is in a genuinely concerning position. The PTR revealed major survivability problems, and the patch notes barely addressed this. There were only three lines mentioning Necromancer, and none touched survivability. Minion builds performed well on the PTR, with a heavy focus on Golem. Blood Wave still seems viable. Bone Spirit has great potential for late-game pushing. But none of this matters if the class dies instantly. If you're considering hardcore, Necromancer is likely the worst class to pick.

Spirit Barrage - Same Build, Again

Spirit Barrage is also concerning. Get ready to play the same poison swarm build again because that's what performed great on the PTR. The devs have publicly stated their goal is to ensure no clear best build exists and that options remain competitive. I'm just not seeing that for Spirit Barrage. What's more frustrating is that it's the same build as last season. There is some good news—the devs made functional changes based on feedback around permanent evade. But in terms of build variety, it's disappointing.

The Rogue Death Trap Bug

One major concern I can't ignore is the Death Trap build on Rogue. On the PTR, it was doing infinite damage through an apparent bug. The patch notes don't seem to address this. It's unclear whether this will make it to live servers. But if it does, Rogue won't just be a winner—it will be the winner by an absurd margin. An ample supply of Diablo 4 Gold will be of great help to you.

Final Rankings

S-Tier: Rogue leads with Death Trap (if bugged), Penetrating Shot, and Dance of Knives. Barbarian follows closely with Ancient Summoner, Whirlwind, and new Bleed builds. Both classes offer the highest potential and variety.

A-Tier: Sorcerer brings Firewall, Frost builds, and Shock variants with strong performance. Druid offers Lightning Shred and Lightning Storm, providing solid options though somewhat limited in variety.

B-Tier: Paladin shows promise with Zeal and Judgment builds but remains untested after massive post-PTR buffs. Warlock has Lunatic, and Dread Claw builds with major functional improvements, yet actual performance is uncertain.

C-Tier: Necromancer struggles with survivability despite decent damage from Golem Minions and Blood Wave. Spirit Barrage remains stuck with Poison Swarm and lacks meaningful alternatives.

Conclusion

Overall, most classes look promising with lots of potential and build variety. That's the result you want from a new season. However, it's obviously not perfect. Necromancer's survivability problems remain unaddressed. Spirit Barrage feels stuck in the same meta without meaningful alternatives. And the Rogue Death Trap bug is a looming concern that could completely distort the meta if it goes live.

But looking at the big picture, Season 14 is shaping up to be in a good state. Most classes have multiple viable builds, and the post-PTR changes have injected excitement and uncertainty. That uncertainty is what makes the early days of a new season so enjoyable. We'll be covering all things Season 14 as it launches. Until then, good luck and happy hunting.
